Departing from Puno, a boat tour in Lake Titicaca offers visits to Uros Islands, Taquile Island and Amantani Island. The gateway to Peru’s region of Lake Titicaca is the city of Puno.
DAY 1: UROS ISLAND + TAQUILE + AMANTANI
Early in the morning we will start our cruise on the Lake Titicaca, in the direction of the Archipelago of Islands Uros. Our small boat passes fields of totora, Reed with which are made all the Uros floating islands.
After half an hour of navigation, we arrive in the Islands, 40 in total, with their houses, their boats, their watchtowers of totora. People, especially the women with their beautiful very colorful dresses, welcome us on their island, where we will discover their traditional way of life. Our guide explains the technique of construction of the floating island and the multiple properties of the totora.
We take the boat for a crossing of 2 hours through the immensely Blue Lake surrounded by mountainAmantani islands. We disembark on Amantani Island, where we will start a short walk in the middle of the agricultural terraces; we will be enjoying a magnificent view on the island and the Lake below.
We continue our walk (1 hour) to the sacred Summit of Pachatata (father Earth), where we enjoy a panoramic view on the Lake, the island and the nearby Summit of Pachamama (mother earth). We will be on one of the two sacred Amantani Island. Our guide explains the mode of community organization, and the beliefs and ceremonies conducted in this place in honor of mother earth.
We descend through the other side, the village of El Pueblo, where we are going to be installed in our family home, in a rustic but comfortable house. We enjoy the tranquility of the place, then time of dinner; we will have prepared our food, based on products grown on the island.
We will spend a wonderful night, without noise or electricity.
DAY 2: AMANTANI + TAQUILE
After a good bAmantani islandreakfast we have to take our boat. We live up to the island of Taquile, just opposite of Amantani. We will climb long stairs that leads to the main village of the island. Taquile residents still live in accordance with their ancestral traditions and dress of magnificent colorful and traditional costumes. They are also well known for their handicrafts, particularly of beautiful weavings.
You will have free time to explore the island or to admire the crafts of the inhabitants. Then we have to take our boat back to Puno with 2 hours of crossing approximately.
